| TrackBacks (0)Lune Valley Charity Rally raises £700
Posted by ricey on June 23, 2006 9:16 AM
A good turn-out at Lune Valley's rally to-day, £700 approx., was raised. A good turn out of our members also. A few roman bronze coins a couple of hammereds that I know of. Tommy Mac had a nice roman disc brooch with some enamel on it, should clean up nice. Then about 11-00am the rain s came, and many went home.
Hawkeyes travelled down from Dumfries & found a nice 1836 shilling and won a prize in the raffle.
Thanks to the organisers and more money raised for charity.

Posted by ricey on June 10, 2006 8:22 AM
At this time of the year there is very little metal detecting getting done. We normally just meet up and have a chat - making arrangements for future rallies in Aug/Sept. Anybody is free to pop along to the meeting (assuming you can drag yourself away from the footie). I have also listed a few rallies on here that I have been advised about.

RALLY.
Lune Valley Metal Detecting Club
RALLY
(All profits going to the Whittington village hall building fund)
Sunday 18th June 2006
at
Holme House Farm
Whittington
Near Kirkby Lonsdale
Post Code LA6 2DG
OS GR SD608774
Rally Commences at 10 am finish at 5pm
£10 per person detecting
Grand Raffle
Kirkby Lonsdale has many ancient features in both the town and surrounding area, take a look at the OS map and you will see what we mean. Holme House Farm is said to be one of the oldest farm buildings in the valley.
Yes! We have held a rally on this farm some years ago but we do think a second visit is worthwhile. And of course in the years since we have been on the site ploughing has taken place. Detecting on the adjacent farm produced a number of early hammered and a goodly number of Roman Bronze coins. Fields across from where are searching contain an early settlement and Elizabethan features and is of course Scheduled.
Whilst we are confident that interesting finds will turn up - as usual we are not giving any guarantees.
The land we will be searching over mostly grass covered that the farmer will be cutting for silage during the two weeks before the rally.
Getting there ~
· Leave the M6 at Junction 36 and take the A65 to wards Kirkby Lonsdale
· At Kirkby Lonsdale turn right to Whittington on the B6254
· Travel on the B6254 for approximately 2 miles - the site entrance is on your left on a very sharp bend.
· From Lancaster take the A683 and follow it to the junction with the A65
· Turn left at the junction pass over the river Lune Bridge and take the first left into the B6254.
As usual I am just the messenger boy. I am not associated with this rally in anyway.
